The year is 1998 instead of vacating the UFC heavyweight championship Randy Couture who is undefeated at 4-0 at the time decides to stay if the UFC instead of going to Japan. What if Ken Shamrock decided to return to the UFC 1998 in a attempt to claim the UFC heavyweight championship Do you think the inexperienced champion will be able to take out one of the best submission artists of the 90s? Honest I got Kenny in this one Randy was especially vulnerable to submissions in this time. But definitely still wasn't a push over by any means. I think it would have been a very tough night out for Ken what he would have found a way to get the job done that's just my opinion. UFC 13 Heavyweight Tournament Champion UFC Superfight Championship

Shamrock was a beast back then but at the same time Couture has that game planning and high fight IQ.
I'd go with Couture but I wouldn't be shocked if Shamrock won either.

They first fought in 2002! Tito didn't fight "the worlds most dangerous man" Shamrock of teh 90's.

Shamrock was a different beast in the octagon before he left for wwe. Never the same. Came back old and worn out. Tito had it easy compared to a prime ken.

A fight against that version of Ken would be unpleasant! Imagine messing with a guy like that in a bar, not knowing what he's capable of!!

That would have been awesome. in 1998, I would have favored Ken via kneebar, but that's with the benefit of 2019 hindsight and Sherdog.com.
I think Randy really hit his stride about 5 years later. All of his skills improved. He was able to light up prime Chuck standing (with the help of the takedown threat) in 2003 and in the late 2000s, he was able to go to survive on the mat with Jacare. I saw that match, and, regardless of the ruleset and Randy's weight advantage, I know 1998 Randy would not have lasted 90 seconds- let alone the whole match.
Prime Randy destroys Prime Ken, but 98 Ken beats 98 Randy.

Prime Shamrock mentally and physcially was the one that showed up at UFC 3.
By UFC 5, Shamrock already saw Royce pull off a triangle choke when nobody knew about it and that made Ken more paranoid than he needed to be. Then, WWE ravaged his body and turned into a pile of tenderized meat and chewed up joints.
